| About The Northern Virginia Chapter |
The Northern Virginia Chapter began in 1988 when two Fairfax county transcriptionists wondered why they were driving in 100 miles to Baltimore for monthly meetings. Susan Pierce, CMT, ART, and Carol Larson started their hunt for the twelve interested transcriptionists they needed to hold an informational seminar. The seminar took place in October 1988. Representatives of both the Tidewater and Baltimore Regional Chapters arrived to lend their support, and AAMT sent their president, Brenda Hurley, CMT, to address the seminar. The rest, as they say, is history.
Since its founding, Northern Virginia Chapter members have shared some rocky roads and spectacular successes. There have been many memorable meetings, and just two years after the first informational seminar, the Northern Virginia Chapter hosted the third annual meeting of the Virginia Association for Medical Transcription at Tysons Corner. In 1993, the chapter proudly watched our own Susan Pierce, CMT, ART, assume her elected position on AAMT's national Board of Directors, and in 1997, we again celebrated as Ms. Pierce assumed the office of President of AAMT.
